Carlsbad Caverns Ride  (With GWTA Club)       Captain: Bill Nielson & GWTA Club Phone: (303) 883-1960       Date: May 26 - 28 Saturday - Monday       Meet: 7:45 AM @ Castle Rock Village Inn (I-25 Exit 182) Option: Show up at around 6:45 am and have breakfast.       Ride leaves at 8:00 AM-Eat & fuel before meeting         This is an invitational joint riding adventure with the GWTA (Goldwing Touring Association). The RMVTA members can ride in their own groups, or intermingle with GWTA. The choice is yours. Either way, this is a good way to interact with other clubs, and show everyone the proud club that we are. NOTE! Although the following does not show fuel and food (Dairy Queen) stops, they will be taken to fit everyone’s needs.  Saturday, May 26       Depart Castle Rock via I-25 south to US 84 via Pueblo (84), Raton (106),   Romeroville (113). 303 mi       Take US 84 south to NM 219 (42), continue south on to US 54, Pastura (16),   then south on US 54 to US 285 Vaughn (21). Take US 285 south to Junction   US 285/US 70 (91), then follow US 70 to Roswell (5). Overnight at Roswell 175 mi         Day Total 478 mi       Sunday, May 27       Depart Days Inn via US 70/US 285 south to US 62, Carlsbad (76), then   US 62 to NM 7 (20),then follow NM 7 to Carlsbad Caverns (7). 103 mi       Carlsbad Cavern [in/near Carlsbad, NM] has more than 30 miles of surveyed subterranean corridors and great chambers. The natural entrance is 90 feet wide and 40 feet high. Leading into the cave is a paved but mostly steep trail, making flat-heeled shoes with rubber soles the safest and most comfortable footwear. Because the temperature underground is a constant 56 F, a sweater is recommended.
